    Effects of stopping hydroxychloroquine

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

Saturday was a week since I stopped taking Plaquenil, aka Hydroxychloroquine, per my doctor's instructions, and I think I am going through some form of withdrawal. I took the drug as a treatment for sarcoidosis and one of the side effects is a reduction in white blood cells, which is what has happened to me. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about. Retinal toxicity from hydroxychloroquine is rare, but even if the medication is discontinued, vision loss may be irreversible and may continue to progress. It is imperative that patients and physicians are aware of and watch for this drug’s ocular side effects.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.
