Frontal fibrosing alopecia FFA is a condition that causes hair loss alopecia at the front of the scalp and near the temples. Treatment of the condition varies, although none can restore hair that has already been lost. The condition can also cause hair loss on the eyebrows, underarms, and other areas of the body where there are hair follicles. My rheumy told me that the hair loss could be from the plaquenil or lupus before telling me to take vitamin b. I knew I was already on a lot of vitamins so I talked to my PCP who put me on them, and I was told not to take anymore than the two multivitamins because one is a prescription iron/ multivitamin combination with a lot of vitamins.

Speak to your doctors and push to get a diagnosis as quickly as possible if you suspect you have lupus. Ensure you always take your medication as directed, at the right time. If it’s medication-related, then speak to your doctor about changing medications. The sooner you start lupus treatment, the better and the less likely you are to suffer from hair loss.

  4. Sep 05, 2016 I saw my rheumatologist yesterday, and he said the hair loss could be from taking Plaquenil. But he said it could be from getting older. Well, the hair loss started happening about six months after I began taking the Plaquenil and over a few months I lost 40% of my hair. So it is my opinion that the hair loss cause wasn't old age but the Plaquenil.

Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial medication used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites, which enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Plaquenil is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. Plaquenil and post surgery. Does is mean harder to heal? It is from a surgery 18 months ago - before I was diagnosed with SS. Here is the glitch - Dr. says when one is on Plaquenil - healing from surgery is much more difficult and risky. Has anyone had surgery and complications while on Plaquenil. Doc has not said I would need to go off for surgery.
