LEF, a potent anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, and antineoplastic drug, is one of a new generation of DMARDs for use in patients with severe RA, a group of drugs that includes etanercept, infliximab Remicade, and adalimumab Humira. Humira, Kineret, and Remicade are all biologic agents called monoclonal antibodies. Each of these drugs increased shingles risk by about 80%. Enbrel, a slightly different kind of TNF-alpha blocker, did not, says Anja Strangfeld, MD, of the German Rheumatism Research Center in Berlin. Sarcoidosis is a chronic inflammatory granulomatous dis- ease that primarily affects the lungs, although multi-organ involvement is common. The etiology of sarcoidosis is not clear; however, genetic and environmental factors probably play a role in the development and expression of the disease.

  7. Hi, I was diagnosed on Monday with Lupus and told by my Rheumy to take Plaquenil. He said it would be fine with Humira, which is what I currently take for Ulcerative Colitis. However, I have looked at a couple of 'drug interactions' sites online and both have stated that there is a drug interaction between the two.

Photosensitivity is a common side-effect of methotrexate, plaquenil, and NSAIDs such as celebrex or advil. Photosensitivity may also be a serious side-effect of anti-TNF drugs such as cimzia, enbrel, humira, remicade, and simponi, as well as sulfasalazine. For etanercept Enbrel, that translates to a 1-week before surgery hold, for infliximab Remicade 6-8 weeks, and for adalimumab Humira 2 weeks. These agents should also be held for 10-14 days after surgery or until wound healing is satisfactory. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an effective medication for autoimmune conditions and malaria that comes with less side effects than other DMARDs. Humira adalimumab is good for treating many autoimmune conditions, but it can also cause serious side effects.
