    Does hydroxychloroquine lower immune system

Treatment of severe chloroquine poisoning Side effects of plaquenil withdrawal

Suppressed Immune system because of steroids and 12.5 methotrexate. Thanks Immune system happy Christmas to you too. Oral surgeon says \"Breeding ground for bacteria\" and \"your immune system must be taking a beating\" Hydroxychloroquine ; Hydroxychloroquine SIDE EFFECTS. The following adverse reactions have been identified during post-approval use of PLAQUENIL or other 4-aminoqunoline compounds. Because these reactions are reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not always possible to reliably estimate their frequency or establish a causal relationship to drug exposure. Hydroxychloroquine belongs to a group of medicines known as antimalarials. It works by preventing or treating malaria, a red blood cell infection transmitted by the bite of a mosquito. However, this medicine is not used to treat severe or complicated malaria.

Around 2 weeks ago, I came down with a doozy of an illness (flulike with croup like cough that just won't quit). The only thing that usually ever ailed me were the crappy Sjogrens symptoms.

  7. All of my symtoms pretty much cleared up. Now this year I have been having things pop up that are related to a low immune system. Some of my doctors think It is the Plaquenil causing it but then some say that Plaquenil is not an immunosuppressant drug that for some reason my immune system is out of wack. I only take 200 mg a day.

Plaquenil tablets contain the active ingredient hydroxychloroquine, which is a type of medicine called a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Plaquenil Hydroxychloroquine sulfate is a drug originally used to prevent or treat malaria. Malaria is a serious but rare disease caused by bites from infected mosquitos. Now the drug is used to treat inflammatory diseases. This type of disease occurs when the body's immune system attacks its own healthy tissue. It alters your immune system, but as far as I know, it doesn't actually suppress it. Plus, if you have only been on it a month, it's probably not built up enough in your body to have much of an effect. I have actually been way HEALTHIER than ever since being on Plaquenil AND Methotrexate, which DOES suppress the immune system - go figure!

Chloroquine C18H26ClN3 - PubChem Chloroquine is a 4-aminoquinoline with antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, and potential chemosensitization and radiosensitization activities. Although the mechanism is not well understood, chloroquine is shown to inhibit the parasitic enzyme heme polymerase that converts the toxic heme into non-toxic hemazoin, thereby resulting in the accumulation of toxic heme within the parasite.

Let me tell you what weaning down from Plaquenil is like. Jan 11, 2012 Plaquenil isn a antiparasitic drug with anti-inflammatory affect. I have done a lot of research on this drug and haven't run into anybody who has complained of the withdrawal effect. Over the years on this site we have had quite a few people post that they didn't think that the plaquenil was working so they would stop taking it.
