What happens if you stop plaquenil

Since I have not taken it my chest feels so much better which is odd because chest pain is not listed as a side effect. Also I noticed that the Plaquenil I think was making me feel different but not in a good way.

Plaquenil is one of those meds you can just stop. My rheumy told me to take a months rest from it once. I asked him about 'tapering' and he said "No - just stop it - and resume after a month." Up to 50% of lupus patients may have non-life threatening symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, and rash. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories e.g. ibuprofen and antimalarials Plaquenil are frequently used for symptomatic relief in this case. Even in cases of mild disease, regular monitoring is critical I recently decided to stop taking Plaquenil because I was having constant chest pains even more so than I usually have due to Lupus. Did you take yourself off Plaquenil, or did your doctor tell you to go off it? Plus I will be honest the whole eye site thing even though rare has always freaked me out. I went off of it to see if I can manage not being on it as my lupus isnt as severe as other cases but already I am feeling very fatigued and my legs feel heavy if that makes sense. I can discuss alternatives with my DR at my next appt but my DR feels as though the plaq is the best bet for my level of illness. If so are you just dealing with Lupus symptoms or did you take another med? I'm on Plaquenil, and after the first week's GI upset, I have had no problems with it.

What is the correct way to discontinue use of plaquenil?, What happens if I leave my lupus untreated? Lupus.

  4. Since a number of medical conditions can be worsened with the use of Plaquenil, warnings and precautions for the medication should be discussed with your healthcare provider before treatment begins. Let your healthcare provider know if you have psoriasis, liver disease, alcoholism, or a G-6-PD deficiency before using Plaquenil.

How were your symptoms prior to the Plaquenil. It's so easy to forget that you're feeling like a 5 on the pain scale when previously you were a 3. Talk to your doctor BEFORE you do anything. He or she may want to start you on another drug, give it a chance to work, and THEN stop the Plaquenil. Hydroxychloroquine is a DMARD. The brand name is Plaquenil. What to do if you forget to take your Plaquenil. If you miss a dose of Plaquenil, do not make it up or double your next dose. If you must stop it, it will take a while for the side effects to go away. You should have an eye examination every year to prevent a very rare but. Plaquenil is used in the treatment of sarcoidosis but its main use is in the treatment of malaria. One of the side effects of taking the drug is that it affects eye sight, and eye tests, especially field of vision tests need to be done every six months. For the four years that I took the drug.
